What would happen if Hugh Jackman and Justin Timberlake were morphed into one person? You’re looking at him.

Birthplace:

Williamsport, PA

Why did you start CrossFit?

My wife convinced me to go to my first CrossFit class and my lungs burned so bad for the next week that I decided to keep doing it until it didn’t hurt so much.

Certifications/Accomplishments/Experience:

CrossFit Level 1 Trainer, Strength/conditioning coach for St. John’s Prep athletics

Athletic Background:

I have played organized soccer and basketball and boxed recreationally

How did you get here?

My wife and I became members at Five Plus after attending some of the first ‘open house’ workouts.  We really enjoyed getting to know the founders and came to appreciate the relationships we developed through CrossFit just as much as the workouts.  Eventually, Chris Welch helped me get a job at St. John’s Prep and I got my CrossFit Level 1 Trainer certificate through that job.  I’ve been coaching CrossFit at Five Plus and at the Prep ever since.

What is your favorite movement:

My favorite movement is the snatch.  I love the fact that so many elements of fitness are tested in this one movement (strength, flexibility, balance, accuracy etc).  The snatch is dynamic and complex in that it requires explosiveness and power as well as precision.

What is your Goat (least favorite):

I don’t like sit-ups.  I prefer any other core exercise to sit-ups.

What is your PLUS?

My PLUS is my wife.  She makes me a much better athlete and coach thanks to her knowledge of anatomy (she’s a few months away from completing her doctorate of physical therapy).  Often when a member poses a question about how to deal with aches and pains or when I’m recovering from an injury, I turn to her for advice.

Why are you excited to be a part of this?

I’m excited to contribute to the companionship among the coaches and the mutual support members provide for one another.  At Five Plus, CrossFit is simply a context for unlikely conversations, developing friendships and investing in peoples’ lives.

Favorite Sports Team:

The New England Patriots

What do you sing in the shower:

When I do sing to myself, I sing whatever pop/country song I heard last on the radio.

Favorite Quote:

“No man knows how bad he is ’till he has tried very hard to be good” – C.S. Lewis

“We seize the moment, try to freeze it and own it, squeeze it and hold it, cuz we consider these minutes golden. And maybe they’ll admit it when we’re gone, just let our spirits live on through our lyrics that you hear in our songs.” -Eminem

What do you want to be when you grow up?

I want to be a song-writer/music producer.

Something that surprises people about you:

People are usually surprised that I have a relatively high singing voice and I love writing sappy love songs.

Favorite Cartoon:

Never really watched cartoons.

Favorite Movie:

My favorite movies are the Bourne Identity series

Favorite Book:

I don’t have a favorite book. I don’t read much.

Favorite Color(s):

My favorite colors are gray and purple.

Favorite Beer:

I like Sam Adams Boston Lager

When you stub your toe, what comes out of your mouth:

When I stub my toe I immediately get frustrated with myself and usually say “C’mon, really?” (even when there’s no one else around).
