Why did you start CrossFit? I had always been an endurance athlete and got to a point about 2 years where I was looking to try something new and different – something that would challenge me physically as I felt like I was in a rut. My fiancé at the time – and now husband! – suggested that I try CrossFit as he had done it for a few years and loved it. He knew how much I loved being challenged and the thrill of physical actively and was confident I would love CrossFit. I was hesitant at first as I knew very little about it and didn’t want to be locked into having to go to a class. I gave it a try though and joined the on-ramp program at North Shore CrossFit. I was hooked immediately!!! I loved that every workout was challenging and that there was always something new to learn. Although I was super sore the first month, I felt so strong and confident and that hasn’t changed a bit! Most importantly, I loved the community and meeting new friends and was surprised at how much I looked forward to going to class everyday!

Athletic Background: I ran track and x-country in high school and rowed crew in college (I went to school in snowy Maine and much of our winter training was on the erg (aka rowing machine) so trust me, I feel your pain when you when you see a rowing WOD!!). After college, I got into marathon running and have run 7 marathons, including Boston Marathon and Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, DC. I have completed three Tough Mudders and one sprint triathlon. I grew up near Stowe, VT and started to ski when I was 18-months old. I’ve since switched over to snowboarding and love it! I spent one awesome winter teaching snowboarding lessons in Vermont.
How did you get here? If you had told me two years ago that I would be opening a CrossFit box with four awesome friends (one being my very cool husband!), I would have said that sounded like the most amazing dream ever but that you were crazy! Mostly because my husband – Greg – and I had just started dating AND because I had only seen the CrossFit Games on TV! When my husband and I met in 2011, I was working in alumni relations and getting my masters, both at Boston College. We married in July 2012 and moved to Beverly, MA, where I started CrossFit at North Shore CrossFit and then CrossFit Variance. Through Greg, I was blessed to meet Brandon, Chris and Sarah and join their dream of opening a box. I love working out and being healthy and I love people so I couldn’t be happier 🙂
What is your favorite movement: I LOVE thrusters and power cleans! They both make me feel super strong 🙂
What is your Goat (least favorite): Snatches – I finally have the move down and now just need to work on adding weight – and double-unders. My goal this year is to do a full minute of double-unders.
What is your PLUS? My daughter Audrey who we welcomed into the world in August of 2013 and who has changed our lives forever. I crossfitted up until my 8th month of pregnancy and joke that she came out doing burpees and squats 🙂 She makes me want to be healthy so that I can be an example to her and always keep up with her. Isn’t she cute?!?!
I also have my Masters of Science in Administration from Boston College. This is a PLUS because I will be able to answer all of your questions and manage your memberships with confidence!
Why are you excited to be a part of this? I am most excited to create an awesome CrossFit community for our members and to be working with my amazing Five Plus partners, Greg, Brandon, Sarah and Chris. The level of encouragement and relationship building within the CrossFit community was something I was not expecting when I first started and has become a huge part of my life. I am excited to help build community through CrossFit Five Plus and have it be a place that our members can call home. I love that I have an awesome space where I can workout but more importantly, I love that my husband and I and now our daughter are an integral part of the CrossFit community. I am excited to watch her grow up surrounded my so many cool people who want to be active and healthy!
Something that surprises people about you: My first job was a tour guide at the Ben and Jerry’s Factory in Waterbury, VT!
